A recent ruling by the Supreme Court has said the EPA may have been overstepping its authority when setting some standards. In a 6-3 ruling in West Virginia v. Environmental Protection Agency, issued June 30, the court held that the EPA had exceeded its authority in requiring states to submit plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from plants that generate electricity. This may affect the future of federal agencies and their regulations on the HVAC industry. The EPA will need guidance and delegation from Congress when regulating certain aspects of the industry.
